Video Surveillance Today

Make use of your analog cameras as you migrate to the network

Analog cameras are still viable for video surveillance and may still be well-suited for smaller businesses and establishments that need CCTV for an added measure of security. They are less expensive than Internet Protocol (IP) networked cameras and currently have a large installed based.

While it is older technology and APL Access & Security wants you to eventually move to the latest IP video, we don’t believe in “throwing the baby out with the bathwater.” In other words, we can help you get the most out of your existing analog cameras until you have the budget to move fully to the world of networked video surveillance.

Analog cameras can be engineered and leveraged to produce enhanced information. This is accomplished with the addition of hardware such as encoders which basically convert the analog signal to digital data. Encoders are black boxes that accept an analog signal and convert it to digital so the camera and the recorded and live images can work and be viewed on the network. With these devices, camera streams can be display with a video management system or a web browser and images can be recorded to network video recorders or centralized storage.

Easy does it migration

Encoder technology has been around for many years, but now more migration products, sometimes referred to as hybrid solutions, continue to emerge in an effort to help you make the most of what you have so you can upgrade at your own pace.

Like the encoder, another product used in a hybrid solution might include a digital video recorder or DVR. In this example, the video feed from the analog camera is digitized within the DVR and then can be viewed locally or over the Ethernet network or internet.

Another possibility is high-definition (HD) CCTV or HD analog which uses the existing and ever-present coaxial cabling network. That means you can take advantage of your cabling without ripping out the infrastructure, yet get the benefits of crystal clear detailed images that are beginning to rival the resolution and live viewing capabilities of some IP cameras.

APL Access & Security always custom tailors the solution for your business and vertical market. We can help you make the most of existing analog cameras and provide tangible and affordable migration paths to IP. Contact us today for your free consultation.
